Aloo matar chaat is a unique white pea-based curry recipe made with chopped onions, tomatoes, and a blend of spices. It is a popular street food chaat recipe all over India. This is a very delicious, tasty, and mouthwatering chatpata chaat recipe.

It is a very popular chaat recipe in Odisha. India is a land of street food. There are probably as many street food vendors as restaurants in every part of India. It is a very lips-making snack that has an assortment of the right spices of soothing chutneys.

Peas are usually of two types, green peas, and white peas. We can use both the peas to make matar chaat. Go to any Indian street and you will find lots of roadside stalls selling various chaat like aloo tikki, panipuri, papdi, ragada pattice , etc.

Matar is the common ingredient in all these chaat. It is very simple to make and sometimes, it can be eaten for brunch or dinner as well.

Aloo matar chaat is a unique white pea based curry recipe made with chopped onions, tomatoes and blend of spices.

Ingredients

  • To make aloo matar
  • Boiled potatoes- 4 nos large

  • Boiled white peas- 200 gms

  • Chopped onion- 1 large

  • Chopped tomatoes- 2 large

  • Ginger garlic paste- 2 tbsp

  • Refined oil- 4 tbsp

  • Turmeric powder- 1 tsp

  • Kashmiri chilli powder- 1 tbsp

  • Garam masala powder- 1 tbsp

  • Curry powder- 1 tbsp

  • Chaat masala powder- 1 tbsp

  • Salt to taste

  • For garnishing
  • Tamarind chutney- 2 tbsp

  • Curd- 3 tbsp

  • Chopped cucumber- 1/2 cup

  • Grated carrot- 3 tbsp

  • Chopped green chilli- 2 nos

  • Chopped onion- 1 large

  • Roasted cumin powder- 1 tsp

  • Black salt- 1 tsp

  • Chaat masala- 1 tsp

  • Papad- 2 nos

  • Sev- 1/2 cup

  • Tomato ketchup- 1 tbsp

  • Pomegranate- 1/4 cup

  • Chopped coriander leaves few

Directions

  • To make aloo matar
  • First mash the boiled potatoes roughly in a bowl and keep aside.
  • Then heat oil in a kadhai. When oil becomes hot add chopped onion and fry it till it looks golden brown. Now add the chopped tomatoes and fry it till it will be mashy.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste into the kadhai an d fry it till the raw smell goes.
  • After that add turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, garam masala powder, curry powder and chaat masala powder into them and fry it till oil separates from masala.
  • Then add the boiled white peas into the kadhai and cook for 5 minutes. Then add the mashed potato and salt as per taste and mix all together well. Add some water into them, cover the lid an d let it cook for 5 minutes till it will be thick.
  • Now switch off the flame aloo matar thick gravy is ready. keep it aside.
  • To make chaat
  • Take a large plate, spread aloo matar thick gravy.
  • Then add chopped onion on the top. Add chopped cucumber, grated carrot, curd, tamarind chutney, Chopped green chilli, sev, papad and some pomegranate on the top.
  • Now sprinkle roasted cumin powder, black salt, Chaat masala and tomato ketch up on the top of the chaat. At last add some chopped coriander leaves on the top.
  • Now your aloo matar chaat is ready to serve.
