Egg posto or dim posto is a delicious Bengali-style egg curry that has a spicy poppy seed masala and simmered in spices. This egg curry makes a great side dish that you can serve along with steamed rice or roti.

It is an iconic egg curry which is the amalgamation of fried eggs and poppy seeds paste with onions, ginger garlic paste1, tomato, and some spices. When I prepared Egg posto recipe the first time, every one of my family liked it very much. It is a very easy recipe to make.

Bengali’s have a special soft corner for any preparation with posto or poppy seeds. Though it is a Bengali delicacy, it is loved by the rest of the nation too.

It is very popular in Bengal because it’s a reliable dish which can’t go wrong whether it is with gravy or dry. Egg posto is an extremely easy and quick recipe and it requires a handful of ingredients to cook.

Posto or poppy seed is one of the very common ingredients found in any Bengali household and vastly used number of recipes in Bengal. This curry is made of very few spices and more of the unique taste of poppy seeds. I am sure you will love this recipe.

Egg posto or dim posto is a delicious Bengali-style egg curry that has a spicy poppy seed masala and simmered in spices. This egg curry makes a great side dish that you can serve along with steamed rice or roti.

Ingredients

  • Boiled egg- 6 nos

  • Chopped onion- 1 large

  • Chopped tomato- 2 medium

  • Ginger garlic paste- 2 tbsp

  • Poppy seed paste- 2 tbsp

  • Turmeric powder- 1 tsp

  • Red chilli powder- 1 tbsp

  • Curry powder- 1 tbsp

  • Garam masala powder- 1 tsp

  • Bay leaves- 1

  • Refined oil as need

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • First soak the poppy seeds overnight before make it paste. Then you make a smooth paste poppy seeds.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai, when oil becomes hot add the boiled eggs and shallow fry it for 3 to 4 minutes and keep aside on a plate.
  • Now in this oil, add bay leaf then chopped onion and fry it looks golden brown. After that add chopped tomato and fry it till it will be mashy.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste into it, then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, curry powder and garam masala powder into the masala and fry it for 5 minutes till the raw smell goes.
  • Then add the poppy seeds paste into masala and fry it for 2 minutes.
  • Now add the shallow fry eggs into masala and mix the masala gently. Then add some water into the masala and add salt as per taste. Now cover the lid and let it boil for at least 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes switch off the gas and serve hot egg posto with rice or roti.
