Doodh peda is a popular Indian sweet made with milk, sugar and flavouring ingredients like cardamom or saffron. Traditionally peda is made by simmering milk for prolonged hours to obtain the evaporated milk solids known as khoya or mawa.

Making the traditional milk peda takes several hours and requires attention. The shortcut methods I have shared here are great to try when you don’t prefer to toil in the kitchen for hours.

There are few different ways to make instant milk peda using milk powder or khoya. In this recipe, I made instant mawa using milk powder which just took about 6 mins.

Milk Peda is one of the popular Indian sweets which is usually made on special occasions and festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Diwali, etc. Furthermore, some vital tips and suggestions for a perfect milk peda recipe.

Firstly, I have used condensed milk or milkmaid. which have already had sugar content in it. Secondly, always grease your hand with ghee before shaping peda. Ghee would help to bring a nice texture to the Kesar peda recipe.

Lastly, start shaping the peda when the milk solid is still warm. Once it is cooled down it would be difficult to shape them. These milk pedas taste super delicious and are just like the pedas you get in shops.

Ingredients

  • Milk powder- 250 gm

  • Ghee- 2 tbsp

  • Milk- 1/2 cup

  • Milkmaid- 100ml

  • Pistachios

Directions

  • First heat ghee to a nonstick pan.
  • Then pour milk into it, when the milk becomes warm, add milkmaid into it and mix gently. Now add milk powder, regulate the flame to low, and mix all the ingredients well to make a smooth paste.
  • Keep stirring constantly and cook on a medium flame. You will see the mixture begins to turn thicker.
  • After 1 to 2 mins, it becomes thicker and sticky.
  • Keep stirring continuously and cook until it becomes a mass and leaves the pan. While you stir ensure you also collect the mixture stuck to the sides. the pan. Instant mawa is ready.
  • How to make peda
  • Transfer this instant mawa into a mixing bowl and cool down.
  • Knead the dough to smooth. Divide to 8 equal portions and roll to balls.
  • Flatten and tuck in sliced pistachio in the centre to each peda. Store in an air tight jar.
