Punjabi Aloo Samosa – Heard this one ? Never say no to samosas, because it has feelings too. Well who would say no to a samosa right ?

So, here I am sharing the yummy Punjabi samosa recipe. The main ingredients of Punjabi samosa are green peas, potatoes, and some spices. It is a popular entree, appetizer, or even as a street food snack with an extension as chaat recipe to it.

As a snack, it can be consumed as it with wide a range of chutney recipes across Indian cuisine but samosa is an undisputed king of it. There are different types of extensions recipes of traditional samosas, Punjabi aloo samosa one of the famous of them.

Samosa, one dish that is loved by anyone and everyone, and if you are someone who hasn’t tried it yet, then you surely are missing on a lot of flavors. It is perfect for your tea time snack as well as kid’s tiffin. When suddenly guests are coming to your house, you can make this samosa at your home as snacks.

An Indian samosa is a flaky crust made of all-purpose flour and filled with spiced potatoes and peas. For samosa making, you do need a few special ingredients if you want an authentic flavor like the ajwain or carom seeds for the wrapper and pomegranate seed powder for stuffing.

Both are easily available online or at Indian grocery stores. One of the things to keep in mind, if you want that perfect flaky wrapper, then the temperature of your frying oil has to be very low. The samosa should bubble just lightly when dropped in the oil. This ensures that the wrapper fries are up all crispy and golden brown and flaky.

Samosa, one dish that is loved by anyone and everyone, and if you are someone who hasn’t tried it yet, then you surely are missing on a lot of flavors.


  • For dough
  • Refined flour- 1 1/2 cup

  • Boiled and peeled potato- 4 medium

  • Carom seeds- 1/4 tsp

  • Ghee- 3 tbsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Water as required

  • For stuffing
  • Chopped onions- 1 large

  • Chopped ginger- 1 tbsp

  • Coriander seeds- 2 tbsp

  • Cumin seeds- 1 tbsp

  • Chopped green chilli- 2 – 3

  • Frozen green peas- 1/2 cup

  • Garam masala powder- 1/2 tsp

  • Dry mango powder- 2 tsp

  • Curry powder- 1 tsp

  • Oil for deep frying

  • Fried green chillies to serve

  • Date and tamarind chutney to serve

  • You can also serve with green chutney


  • Take refined flour in a bowl. Add carom seeds, salt and mix well.
  • Then add ghee and mix well again. Now add water as required and knead to stiff dough.
  • Then cover it and set aside for 30 minutes.
  • Now dry roast coriander seeds and cumin seeds on medium heat for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Then crush them coarsely and keep aside.
  • For the stuffing, heat oil in a kadhai. When oil becomes hot, add chopped onion, and fry it till golden brown, then add chopped ginger and green chilli and saute it for few seconds.
  • Now add the coriander seeds and cumin seed powder into it and saute it for a few seconds.
  • Then add the frozen green peas into the kadhai and fry it for 3 – 4 minutes. Then crush the potatoes and add into the kadhai. Now fry them altogether for few seconds.
  • Then add garam masala powder, curry powder, dry mango powder and salt as per required into the kadhai and mi well. Then fry it for 5 minutes and keep aside.
  • For making samosa, divide the dough equal portions and shape each into a ball.
  • Roll the prepared balls in an oblong and cut in half to make a semi circle. Take a semi circle and apply water on the edges, shape into a cone, stuff with a portion of the prepared stuffing and press the edges to seal. Keep them aside.
  • For frying, heat sufficient oil in a kadhai, deep fry the prepared samosas on low heat till golden brown and crisp. Then drain on an absorbent paper to soak extra oil.
  • Now samosas are ready to serve hot with the date and tamarind chutney and fried green chilies.
